EDINBURG, TX – The Region One Education Service Center Board of Directors canvassed election votes during the regularly scheduled meeting held April 15, 2025. Two board seats were up for re-election: Place 3 (Webb County), Place 6 (Cameron County).
Board of Director Laura A. McCoy ran unopposed for Place 3 and Dr. Manuel Gomez, Jr. retained his seat against Antonio G. Limon for Place 6.
Region One ESC Board of Directors are elected by the board members of the 37 public school districts in Region One. Each public school district board member is allowed one vote with the exception of the 24-member board of South Texas ISD, which is allowed seven votes (Region One Board Policy BBB (LOCAL)).
Region One ESC Board Members serve three-year terms. The Texas Education Code (TEC) 12.104 also provides an opportunity for open-enrollment charter schools to be represented on the boards of directors of regional education service centers. Richard Zayas has been re-approved to serve as the charter representative on the board of directors for the Region One Education Service Center, effective June 1, 2025.
Elected members will be officially sworn in during a regularly scheduled board meeting on June 24, 2025.
